Ceiling Fan & BLDC Fan FAQ — Sweep Size, Energy Savings & Brands
Ceiling Fan & BLDC Fan FAQ — Your Questions Answered
Buying a new ceiling fan, or curious about energy-saving BLDC fans? Here are the most common questions answered. For detailed picks, see our Best Ceiling Fan & BLDC Fan guide.
BLDC & Energy Savings
What is a BLDC fan and is it worth it?
A BLDC (brushless DC motor) fan uses a more efficient motor that consumes noticeably less electricity than a conventional induction-motor fan — often around half the power — while running quietly. For daily, long-hours use, the energy savings make it worth the higher upfront price.
How much electricity does a ceiling fan use?
A conventional fan draws roughly 70–80W, while a BLDC fan can run at around 28–35W on full speed, which adds up to meaningful savings over a year of regular use.
Choosing the Right Fan
What fan size (sweep) do I need for my room?
Use a 1200mm sweep for standard rooms, 900mm or smaller for compact rooms and balconies, and 1400mm for large rooms and halls.
How many blades are best?
Three blades are standard and efficient for good airflow. Four or five blades can run quieter and look premium, with broadly similar air delivery for home use.
Are remote or smart fans worth it?
Remote and smart fans add convenience like speed control, timers and app or voice control. BLDC models usually include a remote as standard.
Which ceiling fan brand is best?
Atomberg, Havells, Crompton and Orient are all strong choices — see our guide to match features and budget.
