Wall Mount vs Table Stand — How to Place Your TV Right

The same TV looks better or worse depending entirely on where it sits. Here's how to place it right.

Wall mounting — the default for most homes

Saves furniture space, looks clean, and keeps the screen safe from knocks and kids. Rules: centre of the screen at seated eye level (roughly 40–42 inches from the floor for sofa viewing), directly facing the main seat, away from window glare. Choose a tilt mount if the wall position forces the TV slightly high.

Table stand — when it makes sense

Rented homes where drilling isn't allowed, media units built for it, or TVs that move rooms. Non-negotiables: a sturdy, wide surface and — with children at home — anti-tip straps, since toppling TVs are a genuine hazard.

Either way

  • Distance decides size — verify with the TV size guide before mounting anything.
  • Plan the wiring — power point and set-top/HDMI runs behind the screen, not dangling below it.
  • Soundbar space — leave room under the screen (see the soundbar guide).
