Solo vs Grill vs Convection Microwave — Which Should You Buy?
Microwave shopping starts with one decision: solo, grill or convection. Here's what each actually does — and who should buy which.
Solo — the reheating workhorse
Reheats, defrosts and does simple cooking like rice, maggi and steamed vegetables. It cannot grill or bake. The cheapest type, and perfectly sufficient for bachelors and reheat-first households.
Grill — solo plus browning
Adds a heating coil for grilling and toasting: kababs, tikka, crisped sandwiches. It still can't bake cakes properly. A modest price step above solo.
Convection — the full oven
Adds a fan-circulated heater, so it bakes and roasts like a proper oven: cakes, pizzas, cookies, tandoori-style dishes — plus everything solo and grill do. Costs the most but replaces two appliances for most homes.
The quick decision
- Only reheating? Solo, 17–21L.
- Occasional grilling? Grill, 21–25L.
- Family that cooks and bakes? Convection, 23–28L — the safest all-round buy.
