Geyser Safety — 7 Rules Every Home Should Follow
A geyser is the hardest-working winter appliance — and the one where safety habits matter most. Seven rules our installation teams insist on:
- 1. Professional installation only — correct wiring, earthing and a dedicated MCB are non-negotiable.
- 2. Switch off before bathing — heat the water, switch off, then bathe; it removes electrical risk entirely.
- 3. Set the thermostat sensibly — around 50–60°C heats efficiently without scald-hot taps.
- 4. Never bypass the safety valve — the pressure-release valve exists to prevent tank accidents; if it drips constantly, call service.
- 5. Match the pressure rating — high-rise homes need higher bar-rated tanks (covered in the geyser buying guide).
- 6. Service yearly — descaling the element and checking the anode rod before winter keeps heating fast and safe, especially in hard-water cities.
- 7. Retire very old geysers — a 10+ year tank with rust signs is a replacement, not a repair.
